Common EV questions in the Gulf

Answers built on real owner reports about charging, tariffs and infrastructure across the Gulf.

  • Dubai: home charging is billed on DEWA's residential slab at ~23–38 fils/kWh depending on consumption tier (note: EV charging can push you into a higher slab), and you need an approved charger installed by a licensed contractor. Abu Dhabi: register the charger with ADDC — a flat AED 92/month applies until your sub-meter is installed, then 30 fils/kWh on actual consumption. Public charging across the UAE since 30 September 2024 (Cabinet Decision 81/2024): AC at AED 0.70/kWh and DC at AED 1.20/kWh + 5% VAT — the free public-charging era is over.
