Owners of Tesla vehicles who installed v14.3.9 began receiving a message on their center display stating: "Poor camera visibility detected. Interior windshield residue cleaning is required." However, the cameras were demonstrably clean. Multiple Tesla owners reported receiving the identical warning even on vehicles with clean lenses, particularly in bright sunlight or conditions with high glare.
The rollout of v14.3.9 (software builds 2026.27.5 and 2026.27.6) occurred around September 12, 2026. This update also introduced Automatic Collision Evasion for HW4-equipped vehicles, enabling Full Self-Driving to take manual control to prevent crashes. Tesla confirmed the software fault and announced it would proactively cancel service appointments triggered by the false alerts.
Tesla advised owners not to book service appointments if they received this notification. Those who have already paid for camera cleaning or inspection services can contact Tesla Support to request refunds. The company expects to release v14.3.10 to address the erroneous camera visibility alerts. Initial release notes for the forthcoming build remain identical to v14.3.9, providing no confirmation regarding what specific corrections will be implemented.
