Volvo unveiled refreshed variants of its bestselling SUVs on Tuesday, introducing substantial enhancements to electric driving capability. The new long-range plug-in hybrid models utilize a 41.2 kWh battery, more than double the capacity of current offerings, establishing these variants as America's longest-range plug-in hybrids.
The XC60 achieves up to 78 miles of electric range per charge, while the XC90 delivers up to 73 miles. Both figures decisively surpass the Toyota RAV4 PHEV's EPA-estimated 54 miles of electric range, representing a doubling of electric driving distance compared to the previous generation of these Volvo models.
Design updates encompass revised interior and exterior elements. The XC60 retains Volvo's signature Thor's Hammer LED headlights alongside a redesigned dashboard and door panels. The infotainment system features an 11.2-inch display integrated with Google Gemini, the company's advanced AI assistant. Latest active safety technologies and enhanced cabin appointments complete the upgrades.
All new Volvo vehicles will receive over-the-air software updates throughout their service life, enabling continuous performance and feature enhancements. Production of the long-range PHEV variants begins this fall, with customer deliveries anticipated in early 2027. Volvo has not announced pricing for the new long-range variants.
