Tesla announced displays of its Cybercab autonomous vehicle in Beijing and Shanghai this week. Static exhibitions will run at the Huamao Tesla experience store in Beijing from September 17 to 27, and in the north hall at ground level of HKRI Taikoo Hui in Shanghai from September 17 to 21.
The Chinese public will have the opportunity to examine the Cybercab closely, though the events do not represent a sales launch or the beginning of commercial robotaxi operations in the country. The vehicle features a two-seat layout and eliminates the steering wheel, pedals, and conventional rearview mirrors, relying entirely on Tesla's autonomous driving software.
The China debut follows Tesla's launch of Cybercab commercial service in Austin, Texas on September 3, 2026. The company began volume production of the vehicle in April 2026 at Gigafactory Texas, employing an "Unboxed" manufacturing process that produces subassemblies in parallel to improve efficiency. Tesla's expanded lineup presentation in China reflects efforts to address mounting pressure on its domestic sales amid increased market competition.
